Schools reopening preps continue as lockdown enforcement tightens

Mukudzei Chingwere

Herald Reporter

While preparations continue for a safe reopening of schools, Government wants to see full enforcement and compliance of the enhanced Level 4 lockdown put in place last month and last week and is funding several measures to make that easier.

The start of the second term will see a combination of face-to-face teaching, remote home learning, community learning and the use of alternative platforms such as e-learning, radio and television, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said after the Cabinet meeting yesterday.https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?gdpr=0&us_privacy=1---&client=ca-pub-7429385817508822&output=html&h=200&slotname=5226064343&adk=218097813&adf=1377497832&pi=t.ma~as.5226064343&w=806&fwrn=4&lmt=1625702575&rafmt=11&psa=0&format=806x200&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.herald.co.zw%2Fschools-reopening-prep…

VP Chiwenga announces new COVID-19 measures

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, who is also the Minister for Health this evening announced new COVID-19 measures:

MEASURES TO CURB THE SURGE OF COVID-19

1. Fellow Zimbabweans, the country has done very well in terms of curbing the spread of Covid 19. In addition, our vaccination against Covid 19 is going on very well.

The country is however experiencing a surge in cases. The last 7 seven days have seen 596 new cases and 26 deaths as compared to the same period in May 2021 where we had 132 new cases and 6 deaths.

This is a more than 4-fold increase in new cases and deaths. Sadly it has been noted that there has been a general complacency in adhering to the preventative measures both in the communities and workplaces.

We are also witnessing a sharp increase in cases and deaths globally and in the SADC region. In order to curb this surge in cases and deaths in Zimbabwe and prevent a potential 3rd wave, the following measures will be …

I bought a back chatting Bluetooth speaker and was pleasantly surprise

I never understood why anyone would want a smart speaker, Echo Dot or Google Home Device. It’s basically giving a big tech company an ear into your home. But it has always been puzzling to me as to why they sell and especially here in Zimbabwe. There are better things to spend money on if you want a bit of cool bit of tech or a toy. And your phone can pretty much do the same through Google’s Assistant or Siri. So being the glutton for punishment that I am and (for a day) having more money than sense. I decided to buy a Google Home Mini to see what this is all about.

I need adult supervision

The story really begins when I had more time than I really should be allowed. I was actually looking for a laptop stand and took a trip to a nearby fleamarket to find one. At this point, I should admit that I have an aversion to the bigger stores when it comes to certain things. If it’s a device or tool that has a relatively low degree of complexity I’d rather take…

Bureau De Change Conti-Cash now allowing people to pay DStv at “bank rate”

Bureau De Change Conti-Cash now allowing people to pay DStv at “bank rate”

Zimbabweans love their DStv and are often willing to go to the black market to get the foreign currency needed to pay the subscription. At one point the RBZ revealed that on average Zimbabweans spend about US$45 million every six months on DStv subscriptions alone. Now there is a bit of good news for those tired of paying black market rates you can now pay for your DSTV subscription at the official rate!

A few months ago the RBZ said they were going to be opening up the foreign currency auction to the wider public via Bureau de Changes and it seems they are starting to deliver on that promise. A remittance company called Conti-Pay which also doubles as a Bureau de Change is now allowing Zimbos to pay for DSTV using the official “bank rate” i.e. the auction rate.

Their process is automated and makes use of a WhatsApp bot. To pay for your DSTV you need to …

Free Tools

VPN software lets you join private networks as though you're sitting at a local computer on that network, giving you access to shared folders and tons more handy stuff. On this page we will post some of the most popular VPN tools.

Why use a VPN

There are various reasons for wanting to use free VPN (virtual private network) software, but the two main ones are to hide who you are, or to hide where you are. Why might you want to do either of these things? Depending on what you're up to online, it is entirely possible that you do not want your online activities to be traceable particularly in parts of the world where internet surveillance is a serious issue.

As for wanting to disguise where you are, this has the advantage of opening up websites that might otherwise be inaccessible. There are a large number of websites using video or television sites that …

I write about how bitcoin, crypto and blockchain can change the world.Bitcoin and cryptocurrency prices have struggled this week with the crypto market’s combined value slipping under $1.5 trillion—down from $2.5 trillion in May.

AdNow, as bitcoin charts show the price 50-day moving average has fallen below the 200-day moving average—a pattern known as the “death cross”—Coinbase cofounder Fred Ehrsam has warned “most” cryptocurrencies and crypto-assets “won’t work” and “90% of NFTs” will have “little to no value in three to five years.”

ZINWA  will soon start using satellite images to curb illegal use of rivers & dams

To most people, ZINWA is the shadowy authority that regularly bills them even though, technically speaking, it’s local councils that provide you with running water. The Zimbabwe National Water Authority is much more than that though, by law they are in charge of managing all the water resources within Zimbabwe including canals, dams, rivers, aquifers and reservoirs. This means if you want to drill a borehole at your place you need to talk to them. As well as if you intend on damming a river or establish an irrigation scheme. Few people know this and fewer still actually engage them as the law requires. When you get in touch with them they draw up an agreement with you regarding how much water you can use, for what purpose and how much in fees you need to pay them. As I have said few people bother with this bureaucracy. It’s even worse in rural areas where people just buy pumps and pipes and start draining rivers without engaging ZINWA. This leads to lost revenue to th…
